Now the turbo gets more airflow and stays nice and cool

I’m getting ready to do this too. Did you just use an angle grinder? Run into any issues?

You are a braver man than I.

The good news is it’s pretty easy (and comparatively cheap) to replace the hood if you screw up.

Did it add lightness? I am thinking this would be a great inappropriate / very appropriate mod to do to my car since the hood is already hail damaged.

I was eyeing these vents for my C5... or at least something similar. I cannot raise my hand and cut a hole in a hood.
What if i fuck it up. What if it’s crooked. What if water gets in and fucks up electronics.
But I know I need it. LS1 gets pretty hot under there.
Elaborate on the process? Is it just cut a random hole. Mirror it on other side. Stick some vents in and call it a day? How do you know snow/rain won’t ruin electronics?

Would have been cheaper at the hardware store. No, seriously, your hood is awesome

I third with the calls for elaboration! How was the process?? Looks very clean!

I see these on 80 series and I ask myself how much they really help. I guess it all boils down to how much turbulence it creates in the cooling air flow. if it disrupts the laminar flow from the radiator back you will get diminished cooling performance, if its simply an extractor and its not creating turbulent flow for the main cooling system I could see a benefit, but I wonder how much.

use templates to drill holes at corners
use angle grinder to cut longer lines
use file to smooth out edges
use rivets to attach vents
Full disclosure: I had Vorshlag Motorsports in Plano do the install since I was terrified of messing it up, they did a fantastic job.
You get water into your engine bay driving in the rain, most of the electronics should be fine if you add a vent.

I think the vents weigh about the same as the sections of metal that were cut out!

here we go... speed holes are to appear in my hood soon

Nice! I wanted to do something like this to my GVR4 but never had the guts

I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t cut up my hood either! I mean it’d be one thing if it was a shitty project car I wouldn’t mind as much if I messed up, but not my only form of transportation and a car I like very much!

When I originally bought them I knew that Vorshlag would do the install. Between the vents getting delivered and Vorshlag having time to install them, I impulse bought a yellow miata...

Oh! You the one who posted that up yesterday? Welcome to the community lol. They fun as hell and addicting to modify, but your brz is very similar in that respect. I’ve driven with and say in a frs, but never driven one to compare. They seem much more civilized, but similar. You’ll have to do some comparison tests!

Haha I’ve been an Opponaut for many years, but these two are the first cars I’ve had that I’ve truly enjoyed and had things to share on Oppo.
I love both of them, I’ll make a comparison post soon, but it won’t be a fair comparison. the BRZ is very heavily modified

I meant welcome to the Miata community lol. It’s so much more fun being an enthusiast when your car excites you. I feel you on it not being a fair comparison but you can compare some general aspects I guess. I’ll look forward to the post!
